We Need Volunteers
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program is part of the Citizen Corps, which is housed in the Department of Homeland Security. MRC coordinates the skills of practicing and retired healthcare professionals as well as other citizens interested in public health issues in order to provide a trained workforce to help during community events, exercises, and public health emergencies.
We are looking for volunteers of all backgrounds and experiences, not just those with a medical license! Nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals, practicing or retired who are willing to volunteer during public health emergencies in our community, are a great asset to our MRC. However, many different types of skill sets can be utlized during events and emergencies, including receptionists, drivers, fund raisers, child care providers, technology assistants, activity coordinators, greeters, language interpreters, etc. The list goes on and on.
Are you the type of person who steps up to the plate to assist when you see a need? When disasters occur, do you feel the need to “do something”? In a disaster, for instance, you may know that you will do what you can, like those who wanted to help in the aftermath of 9/11. Maybe you’ve even tried in the past to get involved only to discover that authorities could not use your help because you were not part of a response team. We’d like you to take the next step by becoming integrated into the system before the next disaster strikes.
