Get Training
To be approved as a Medical Reserve Corps member, volunteers must complete "Basic" level training. This course includes a Medical Reserve Corps orientation, and two Federal Emergency Management Association sponsored courses - An Introduction to National Incident Management (NIMS) - IS700, and An Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS) - IS100.a.
Additional classes are offered and incentives are given to members who attend the "Intermediate" and "Advanced" level classes. The "Intermediate" course provides information on activities Public Health will be involved with during emergencies. Volunteers will also receive information on "Family Emergency Preparedness" which will help make sure their families are prepared in the event of an emergency. The "Advanced" courses provide information about the psychology of disaster, as well as information on infectiouse disease and viral and bacterial agents used in bioterrorism.
